United Way’s annual Day of Caring is approaching fast and we need YOU, and your skills to make an incredible impact in our community. We are currently recruiting 1,000 volunteers to complete 50 projects throughout the Bismarck-Mandan area. The event will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 13.
As one of this year’s new projects, volunteers will help build a handicap accessible ramp at Youthworks. Other projects include: building garden boxes, mending fences at Dakota Zoo, Bismarck city beautification, ditch clean-up near Wilton, accessibility upgrades for a disabled senior citizen, preparing for a clothing drive, and restoration work at Buckstop Junction.

This year marks the 15th year of the event, which was created to connect the skills and resources of community-minded individuals, businesses and organizations to area nonprofits and neighbors in need. Volunteering also has some pretty great personal benefits. It can be a great way to develop skills, explore career options, make friends, garner new professional contacts, get exercise and spend time outdoors. On top of all that, it just feels good.
“Thank you from the depth of my heart for all the work you did for me. The painting of my apartment is great,” said a project recipient in 2013. “What was my apartment is now my home!”
